Here is my latest illustration for my new fantasy portfolio. I spent many hours on this one, far more than I had originally planned. However, I am very happy with the way it turned out and felt like I have taken some good steps forward with this piece. I hope you enjoy this and as always an feedback is greatly appreciated. I really want these pieces to be the best they can possibly be, so if you see a way that I can improve this piece I would love to hear from you.

Have a great week!

really impressed with how you have learned to render digitally. i really like this piece. my only crit is maybe we can add a little more character and depth in the faces. structurally the characters are put together well, but they just lack personality. also the female's eye (on our left) is reading a bit too bright for the shadow being cast. just tone it down a bit. Lastly just maybe adding a bit more shadow underneath the male character between him and the background. the area underneath his legs just looks a bit flat, but with a darker value will really make him look like he is in front of the grass blades a bit more. again nice work Lance!

Thank you so much for the input Wayne. I really want to push these pieces. I will look to make the changes you suggested (I'll update this image once I do). One of my goals for my art this year is to really work on expressing the personality of my characters; hopefully in the next one (sorceress) I can make her come to life more. After reading your comment I went back into and boosted her expression.
ReplyDeleteWent in and made the changes: dropped the top character's right eye more into shadow, darkened the shadows on the male character's face to give it more form, and dropped more shadows on the bg elements below the male character and around his legs to push him forward. Thanks again Wayne, those suggestions really helped. As for the expressions if I have more time open up between pieces I'll be sure to go back in and repaint the faces.
