This piece was a lot of fun. Especially in playing around with the different colored light sources and making the magic work. I am still trying to find a nice balance between comic style rendering and a more traditional painterly style. I feel I made some good progression with the rendering of this piece, but even now I can also see some ways that I will change it up for my next illustration. In particular the drawing and how I shade the drawing. For this piece I drew it with solid blacks and line work, very much like a comic page, but this I don't feel transferred over well into the painting portion especially in areas like the lower cape. I think I will try more gradated shading in my next drawing and see how that translates in the painting stage because I still want to maintain some of the drawing in the final illustration and I think it will blend more nicely with a traditionally painted look. < shrugs > Will have to see, but that is the fun part; the experimenting. Another thing I learned is that if I want to paint with a palette where purple is a prominent hue I should paint in RGB. I painted this in CMYK and just could not seem to get smooth blends in color when I wanted really dark purple. It just jumped to black. But overall I am happy with the painting. Especially when viewed at its larger full size, cause then all the little details, like the rendering in her irises, can be seen.
I wish you all a most most happy week and I will hopefully have a new painting to show next week, too. Hopefully...need to go paint more.
