Sorry for my absence over the last month. Throughout October the balance between my day job, illustration work, and life was completely thrown off and is just now starting to return to some semblance of equilibrium. I am happy to report that during my absence from the interwebs a couple nice milestones occurred in terms my illustration work. The first is that I had my first book cover published. It was for the Michigan based publisher ResAliens. They licensed a painting I had previously created and used it as the cover to one of their most recent anthologies. It was quite exciting to receive a package in the mail containing my complimentary copy and seeing my artwork on the cover to a book for the first time. The second milestone is that I am in the process of completing my first freelance assignment within the gaming industry. I’ll post more specific info on that once the project is officially announced by the company.
At the moment I am currently engaged in completing a pair of illustrations for an awesome author that I met at GenCon this year. Based upon the opportunities that have arisen since showing at the convention I must agree now even more resolutely that showing at an industry appropriate convention is a great way for an artist to meet new clients and network.
Art wise my current focus is still on continuing to develop a style appropriate to the clients I am targeting, while still maintaining a semblance to the comic art I love and nailing down a painting process to boost my production speed. I am making some progress on the process end of things, but I feel there is still a ways to go before I come to any concise conclusion concerning style.
I’ll keep this post short for now, just wanted to let you ll know that I am still around and will hopefully be much more punctual in my posting as I work to keep life, art, and work more in balance. Below is a sampling of some of the sketchbook studies I have been doing in effort to continue to maintain the discipline of keeping a sketchbook. Some face studies from photos and of a few Pathfinder Iconics.
Hope you all have a great week,
Lance
